Traffic Tips Series

August 2, 2008

While I’m still waiting for Traffic Secrets 2.0 to arrive at my doorstep (it should be here Tuesday), I thought I’d take a few moments each day to share some of my favorite traffic generating tips with you. Some of these will boost traffic to your site right away, while others focus more on long term traffic such as improving your search engine rankings. Give each of them a try and start improving traffic to your site right away.

Long Term Strategy

Your first step in optimizing your sites rankings in the big search engines should be to take a look at every page on your site. Do you know what keywords you are targeting with each page? If not, take a few moments and do a search on keyword research.

Once you know what keywords you are targeting for each page, make sure you have your keyword in your title tag, in the anchor text of the links pointing to that page, and are using it early and often on the page itself. If you are using h or alt tags on the page, include the keyword in those tags as well where appropriate. I also like make sure I use the keywords in my meta tags.

Short Term / Quick Traffic Strategy

Contact some of the big bloggers in your market and offer to write a guest blog. If you’re not a writer, come up with a good pitch of why the blogger should mention your site and how they could benefit from this. If you have a product, see if you can send them a free review copy and see if they will write a product review on their blog. A mention on the blog with a link back to your site can bring you quite a bit of traffic in the short time and may also result in a link back to your site which will help with search engine results in the long term as an added bonus.
